In this book, Catherine Thimmesh makes readers wonder at the truth and mystery of unlikely animal friendships. These real-life stories of animal relationships demonstrate how differences don’t really matter between friends. Friends is Catherine Thimmesh’s sixth nonfiction book for children. She lives in Eden Prairie.

Punishing Race: A
Continuing American Dilemma by Michael Tonry (Oxford University Press)
This book relates why it is that African American men are arrested, prosecuted, convicted, and imprisoned at a much higher rate than the population at large. Tonry is among the nation’s leading authorities on crime and punishment and a professor in law and public policy at the University of Minnesota.

The Last Deployment: How a
Gay, Hammer-Swinging Twentysomething Survived a Year in Iraq by Bronson Lemer (The University of Wisconsin Press)

But most strikingly, he describes the poignant reality faced by gay servicemen and servicewomen, who must mask their identities while serving a country that disowns them.

After fifteen years as a sheep farmer in rural Minnesota, Catherine Friend thought it may be time for a major lifestyle change.
