believe in an idea, an idea that a single
individual who has the right heart and
right mind... can change the world.”
— CAPTAIN AMERICA
Are you ready to be a superhero?
We’ve all had our own favorite heroes, from Superman to Captain Underpants to Harry Potter. Why? Because they taught us it was fun and exciting to read. No matter what the subject, even comic books, if a child is reading then we are on our way to promoting literacy and breaking the barriers that prevent our children from learning. Now, it is your time to be a superhero to the children of Saint Paul and help us fund the Summer Reading Program.
An antidote to learning loss
Since 1960, The Friends—along with other sponsors—have had the privilege of funding summer reading programs (SRP). These programs are shown to be an antidote for learning loss. Instead of losing knowledge and skills during the summer months, kids who participate in library reading programs actually show gains. They continue to improve their skills while having active fun over the summer!
We invite you to be a superhero to your own children by joining them in attending the wide variety of programs at your local library this summer while having the satisfaction of knowing you have done your part to help other children participate as well. Click here to visit the SPPL website and learn about all the events and activities planned for the 2012 Summer Reading Program.
Again this year, the youth and teens who take part in SRP will receive free books for reaching their reading goals. What could be better than book incentives for reading books? We’re rewarding reading with more ways to read - a wonderful cycle that promotes and rewards the love of reading. And the youth and teens who achieve their goals and receive their free books are so appreciative. For some, it is the first book they've ever owned!
Summer reading can literally change a child’s life for the better forever. With the right heart and the right mind, you can change the world! Please make a donation today and know that the dollars you send will support the Summer Reading Program. It takes all of us to put together the summer of fun and reading, and we need your help.
Thank you for all you do for the children of Saint Paul!
